What Women Read

What Women Read says:

Sharon Marie Bidwell's Rose Light is an erotic, historical, romance retelling a classic story in a unique and exciting way.

Here's the blurb:

For Rose Light the simple act of placing a flower upon her mother’s grave will lead to a most fortuitous event. Life looks dismal and Rose has no prospects, not until she meets John Bennett.

When they met, she chastised him, was down right rude. So why has he tracked her down to the poverty-stricken area of Cheapside ? Why does this man think he has found just the right woman and believes all she needs is the right stimulation to make her bloom?

Take one wicked stepmother and two older, conniving sisters, and you may think you’ve heard this tale before. You haven’t -- not this way. Let Rose Light tell you her story.

Gay Romance Story: Trin

Trin by JM Snyder
Trin is a story set in a distant apocalyptic future. JM Snyder, gay male erotica writer, recently published Trin with Aspen Mountain Press.

Frost at Two Lips Reviews says in her review of Trin:

I was enticed from the first sentences and the plot was off and running. Sensations of sensuality are present from the very beginning without being belabored, and the characters’ dialogue is realistic and enticing. Rarely has a novel made me this hot, this fast, and it’s surely left me anticipating more from this inspired author. I read the entire story with my heart in my mouth, and the stunning denouement was totally unexpected. I can’t recommend Trin highly enough.

That was enough to earn 5 Kisses and 3 Chili Peppers, it's hot!

Here's an excerpt from Trin, a gay erotic romance story:

In the drowsy sun, Trin didn't hear the devlars until they were swarming over the back of the truck. "Trin!" Blain cried. His brother gave him a shove that sent him sliding off the hood and into the dust, and before he could stand Blain grabbed the back of his shirt and hauled him to his feet. Dark shadows flittered over the ground from preybirds circling above, sensing a kill. He got one good look at the devlars -- claws and teeth and hateful eyes like drops of black blood -- and then his brother foisted him into the cab of the truck, slammed the door shut behind him. Inside the heat was stifling, and Trin could hear the insidious sound of dry wings rubbing together, teeth squealing off metal, his brother's gun firing laborious rounds into the horde. And what about when the pillshot ran out? What about when they overtook Blain, and Trin was trapped inside? He tried to peer through the windows but they were thick with dust. His heart hammered in his chest -- three seconds ago, he was almost asleep. He couldn't seem to comprehend that this wasn't part of a sun-induced dream.

The ground rumbled like thunder and Trin wiped at the windshield, desperate to see. From out of the swirling sand rode two large run-gun trucks, one gunner on each roof, another leaning out the passenger side windows, flames licking from their guns. The driver of the closest truck held it on the run with one hand and aimed into the devlars with the gun in his other. Trin saw the hand steady on the wheel, felt the pellets strike the truck, each shot carefully aimed. Later, after the devlars were dead and the men gone as quickly as they had appeared, he asked Blain who they were. "Gunners," his brother replied. The look he gave Trin suggested that he thought the sun had melted part of his brother's brain.

Lizzie T Leaf Paranormal Romance

Aspen Mountain Press has released Lizzie T Leaf's Among the Stones, the first in her Again and Again series.

When Lilly visits Stonehenge she unleashes strange, yet powerful dreams.  Dreams of a young couple, Meenah and Toolar, who once lived "Among the Stones." Their love story will change Lilly's life forever.

Here's an excerpt:

Excerpt of Lizzie T. Leaf's
Among the Stones

As we approached our destination, Alan, our tour guide, cautioned us to be careful stepping over the ropes that blocked access for the normal tourists who came in droves. This tour was special since we could disregard the barrier and go among the stones.
“I’m going to let you take a look around on your own. The sun will rise in a few minutes and if you look between those two standing sarsen stones,” he pointed to two large pillars with a heavy lintel across the top, “you will see an amazing site—if you catch it at the right moment. Be careful. There was a heavy frost last night and the grass is slippery. Don’t want anyone to fall and crack their head.” He laughed at his little joke.
I stood and admired the prehistoric site that time and man have ravaged. At one time, in the center of the circle, stood a horseshoe of high, sarsen stone uprights. Encircling this arrangement, another ring of vertical stones stood proudly, capped by horizontal lintels. Unfortunately, only a few managed to maintain their caps and remain standing tall.
From my study of Stonehenge’s history, I know the argument still rages over how people five thousand years ago accomplished this magnificent achievement with their crude tools. These huge stones aren’t native to this region. Neither, are the remaining smaller bluestones within the circle. Being lighter, a lot of them have disappeared over time.
Walking over to a bluestone, I removed my glove and touched the worn surface. I drew my hand back in surprise. Instead of the cold I anticipated, my fingers encountered a warm sensation...very warm, in fact. How strange that I would pick up heat from a rock on such a cold morning.
I shrugged off the prickling of hairs on my neck and ignored the sensation of déjà vu. The crunch of the icy grass under my feet, the colors of the stones, all seemed familiar…almost like I’d come home at last.
Puzzled, I moved away to position myself for the sunrise view Alan promised would be worthwhile. He was right. As the orange ball of fire rose upon the horizon, a brilliant light appeared between the two massive sarsens. I raised my camera and snapped several shots as quickly as I could. Being fast with the shutter was a good thing because the rays pouring through the stone framed opening disappeared quickly.
I wandered around the stones, some standing upright, others lying on their side, and touched them with my fingers. Leaning against a larger one, I studied the surrounding circle. My heart thundered in my chest as I spied a group of low stones clustered together. Not understanding the need, I was compelled to go to them. My feet, with a will of their own, moved toward the grouping. Fear ran through my body like an electrical current.
I stood there for a moment and wondered if I should take the path weaving between the smaller pair of stones and that would bring me to the larger flat surface. The map I held showed this to be the altar stone. Once again, of their own accord, my feet moved forward and I found myself between two stones about waist high.
A wave of dizziness washed over me and I fought back the nausea, resisting the urge to throw up. I reached out to brace myself to keep from falling and heard the sound of Alan’s voice explaining something to one of my fellow travelers.
For a moment, his voice held me in this time and I tried to call out to him. I’d heard his voice before in a different time, in a different life. Grey fog descended, encompassing me in a misty darkness, blocking everything but the roaring sound in my ears. The pounding of my heart emphasized a terror like I’ve never known before. My body went numb and I fell, transcending into to someone else.
When I came back from what had to have been a dream, I was on a stretcher, paramedics hovering, and Alan leaning over me, concern reflected in his deep blue eyes. “Are you okay?” His voice conveyed the same worry I saw in his eyes.
“Fine,” I mumbled and attempted to sit up only to find myself strapped down.
“Take it easy.” Alan reached out and stroked my arm. “What happened? Can I contact someone for you?”
“No, no one.” Other than a few casual friends, I had no one to turn to. My parents died several years ago in an auto crash and I’d never had strong ties to my distant cousins. “I don’t know what happened. Just felt dizzy. Guess I should have eaten breakfast.”
I laughed at my foolishness, hoping he didn’t catch the fact I was lying through my teeth. A scream fought to escape my throat and I clamped my lips together to hold it back. If I gave in to it I was positive I’d slip forever into madness. There was no way in hell he, or anyone else, would believe what happened.
How could they when I had trouble believing myself? The one thing I knew for sure…it was no dream.

Lucynda Storey's BDSM Romance

Just Erotic Romance Reviews gave Refugee, the BDSM romance from Loose-Id an awesome review.

The review is included below, in its entirety.

Congratulations Lucynda. Reader beware: better stock up on batteries (and the tissues) before buying this one.

Review of Refugee by Lucynda Storey from JERR

Title: Irresistible 2: Refugee

Jack Smith answers the call of his buddy, Case Roberts, and finds himself dealing with an emotionally fragile victim of vicious abuse. She has just been sprung from the dungeon of one of the cities most vicious sexual predators. Amanda Byrne is cursing herself for giving her mind body and soul to Victor Wakefield. Jack can't stand the lost face on the angel in front of him. He refuses to act on his desires knowing he is a Dominant and the last thing that Amanda needs at this time. Even though she knows that she might have a sexual relationship in the future, Amanda can't imagine finding another man she could possibly trust with the intimacy of her submission. Jack attracts her but he is a cop and deserves a decent woman and she knows she just isn't good enough for him.

Heart wrenching, yet beautiful, Refugee by Lucynda Storey is book 2 of the Irresistible series. A continuation of Simply Irresistible, it covers the rebirth of a submissive as she struggles with her destroyed life. Amanda is a strong woman who slowly had her will stolen from her in the guise of love and submission. Intelligent, she is scared to have to pick up her life but she refuses to let life be over. Jack is a complex man dealing with his own demons and a temper that leads him into all sorts of trouble. His conviction that Amanda deserves better than him is passionate. Both hide secrets but they build a tentative relationship. Fortunately, they find neither can resist their passion. The sex is tender, hot and beautiful. The plot merges well with the previous story, but it is also able to stand alone. There is discussion of some evil acts done (before Amanda is rescued from Victor) but the story involves more of the emotional side of BDSM. This is a sweet relationship with tantalizing scenes that had me smelling the roses. Ms. Storey has another winner with Refugee.

Lizzie T Leaf

Romance Reader over at Blogstream has a post about my friend Lizzie T Leaf, a romance writer for several houses and soon at Aspen Mountain Press.

Here's an excerpt of her book Studly Service, Lizzie's first e-pub release with Erotique Press.

"Unbelievable." Rissa took in the mob scene of hard bodied males and sexy females cavorting around the pool, all scantily clad.

The travel agent really screwed up when she pitched this trip, somehow missing the fact that this all-inclusive resort catered to the Spring Break college crowd this time of year.

Finally, she found a couple of empty chairs in a far corner. Planting her butt on one, the hot plastic seared through the fabric of her swimsuit. Jumping up quickly she fished her towel out of the bag and spread it over the lounge chair webbing. Slathered with sunscreen, she settled in to read the erotic romance she'd bought just for this trip.

"Great place, huh?"

Shielding her eyes from the sun, Rissa looked up find one of the luscious hard bodied males standing above her. She could sound like his mother and say 'not hardly', but she had reached a scene in the book that had left her feeling a little heated and what the hell, why not go with the flow and see where it took her. "Sure is."

Her new friend took a seat on the lounge chair beside her, not seeming to find it as uncomfortable as she had.

"Been here long?"

His gaze was locked on her chest, where she had to admit her cups came close to overflowing. Should she ask him to talk to the face not the boobs? "Just got in today. How about you?"

He licked his lips, not bothering to look up. Bet he could pick her out of a lineup if they covered her face and told him to focus on the mammary glands.

"Been here a couple of days. Ahhh ... I ... hmmm." Blue eyes darted a quick glance at her face. "My name's John." The stare had already returned to his favorite part of her anatomy and the lust in his eyes seemed to take away the ability to speak.

"Maybe I should put on my wrap."

"Huh?"

Reaching for the sarong tossed across her beach bag, Rissa stood and wrapped it around her body, tying it above the scanty bikini top and let it drape over the rest of her. "You seemed to have a little trouble talking when you're so focused on my chest. Maybe if you tried to look at my eyes, you might be more successful in conversation."

"You're funny." He did force his eyes to meet hers.

Okay, so she was funny. That was a good thing, right? "Thank you. I'm Rissa."

She watched him shrug wide shoulders and grin. "Rissa. I like that. You remind me of someone I know. Not the name of course."

Of course, but hey, if she reminded him of a hot college girl, then maybe she wouldn't have to spend so much time alone. Lord knows, he didn't have to be a brilliant conversationalist to meet the needs of what she had in mind. She smiled her most provocative smile. "Thank you, again."

"Yeah, you remind me of my mother. She's got a sense of humor like you."

His mother! Since when did thirty-five qualify her to have a twenty something son. Maybe it was physically possible if she'd started young, but good grief ... his mother. How could he even go there the way he stared at her boobs before she covered them up? Little shit. Time for her to dump this stud since she couldn't be sure now if she should burp him or screw him.

She reached for her bag and stuffed her book in. "You know, I'm getting a little over heated here. Think I'll go back to my room." Thanks to his remarks, her hot now came totally from the sun. He managed with one comment to douse the heat created from her earlier reading.

The blue eyes clouded with what she thought might be disappointment. "Well, okay." He stood and grinned at her. "Hey, we'll both be around a few more days. Maybe I'll see you again."
